Where to begin, the problem with being so busy outside of Uni is that you become somewhat inconsistent leading to things not getting done or only being touched a few hours before they have to be done; usually on a train or in the car down – This of course means you’re running off battery meaning you’re head to head in a race to finish before the power dies and you’re left in the dark! Right now I have 0:59 left and my fingers are frozen as it is indeed 05:45 am, the train is surprisingly empty and yet again, I haven’t got the right kind of ticket so let’s hope that fares well!
CATCH UP BLOG!!
The Mac is being used more than I use my legs at the moment, it’s constantly on doing something, and so I can’t really be blamed for neglecting the privilege! If I were to account for the most used programs on here, I’d say most probably:
Firefox Internet Explorer
Macromedia Flash 8 – haven’t the serial for CS3!
Itunes – Over half the HDD is music, Alkaline Trio’s on at the moment.
Adobe Photoshop CS3
World of Warcraft – Aaaaaah yeahhhhhh…
Right, 0:46 left… I have a whole toffee cake here and I haven’t eaten yet so I may devour that now for a bit.

Back
Let’s move onto the course, its now the second term of my first year and even within the first week we’re straight back into work! Must say that’s a good thing though as I’m growing to despise doing nothing. I feel I’m writing too much, let’s cut that down.
Just realised the cake I ate is now smeared on the mouse button, hurrah!!
My way of thinking since I started the course has changed dramatically, instead of thinking in such a naïve way in regards to things such as pictograms, way-signs, magazine covers and so forth, I have perhaps matured mentally somewhat and now take much more of an interest to why and how things have been done. Granted this means a lot of work world-over pisses me off now as I pick out imperfections and flaws in its design. My partner constantly moans at my comments over restaurant menus and newspaper headlines – “Don’t bring your work home!” she says.
I know full well that I’m far from being truly knowledgeable in the art of Graphic Design but I can safely say that my knowledge and understanding has increased ten-fold since I started the course – that’s just from one terms work! Who knows how it’s gonna be come the final year?
In my PPD tutorial, I stated a lot of goals and seeing as these blogs are gone (They’ll come back the moment my flatmate returns my pen-drive I’m sure!), I thought I’d share a few of them with you again. I was critiqued for not being too serious or realistic but allow me to elaborate upon one and digress upon the more serious and deep meaning behind the humorous guise!
• Become Grand Overlord Shamus Alucard Griffin – This one is basically a way of me saying that I wanna be well known. I did mention this again later on the presentation as “I want to be sucessful” but the Overlord part seemed like a good opener. Some people I’ve discussed this with have stated that I could perhaps by doing this, be selling out and will lose touch with whatever morals I have/had before I became big. Utter bollocks I think! I’ll become what I want to be and if that’s successful, then that’s what I shall be. The path to this destination however will be a hard one, filled with many a peril and danger so I must learn the way of the force and become the mightiest Jedi ever known to the universe. To begin, I’ll need to do more work.
A website showcasing a lot of my work in a portfolio of sorts will be perfect. I can advertise the site and offer affordable work to anyone who needs it and make myself some cheddah, get some rep and start working towards the end goal! So that’s the first goal…in fact let’s make a sub-set of bullet points to show these goals!
o Gather all previous work and sort the crap from the flash.
o Take all this work and combine it with present work. Scan it in, get digital versions and put it all on the Mac.
o Create a website, either Flash or Html and make a gallery showcasing the aforementioned works.
o Add stuff like commission prices, testimonials and so forth. Get some more money that way!
o Include a Google Adsense section there to make some more money.
o Once the site is up, get business cards! Perhaps get a new number as well – a sexy one with good numbers in it – maybe all 56’s, yeah read up on that one Shamus…
o Make some web adverts and get my name out there!
o Become a Pokemaster.
o Okay…kinda running out of ideas now and the knobber in front of me on the train keeps pushing my feet back, does he know what I can do?!
Maybe I should have some pictures on the page to lighten the load perhaps.
Okay, another issue that I shall enlighten you upon is something that has been queried a lot since I started the course. Such questions usually follow the shape of this: “Shamus, how on earth do you manage to juggle Uni, work, training, a serious girlfriend, travel hundreds of miles a week and stay on top of it?” Some have said I’m going to have a mental break down soon but that’s crazy, only the weak break down!! STRENGTH AND HONOUR!!! Yup yup.
In answer to this question, it’s all about finding a balance. I try to find ways of being efficient and multi-task along the way all the time. For example, as I travel I write my blog and listen to music to chill a bit. As I train, I text the lady at breaks and then see her afterwards and perhaps do some work and more training when I’m with her. Granted I barely have any free time whatsoever and it can be hectic but as someone so rightly said: “It’s your life man, you chose it.”
“So Shamus, how is all the training going?”
Check my blog knob’ead!!
“But I thought I was reading your blog? You’re a cunt when you’re sober ya know that?”
What…?
“I mean, ya know, you were a bit aggressive back there and I kinda felt intimidated. I merely asked you a question and you bite my head off about it. Kinda seems unfair to me.”
What…?
“Never mind…”
In short, check out my separate training blog at www.onimushamus.blogspot.com and try not to accidentally click on the links to the side and make me some money, wink wink ;)
The reason I have this blog up is through a suggestion from a freerunning Homie of mine by the name of Sticky and it just made sense. You don’t wanna be sifting through my rants over the weather and how many reps of whatever it was I did, do ya? Exactly, if you wanna read up on that, then go check the site!
I’d like to try and keep my training and work separate, makes it easier that way. I’m not an ignorant cunt, I just wanna keep them away from each to an extent. My choice.
Right power is going into reserve so I’ll continue this later.
Peace.
